How many times can you reuse a mushroom grow kit? ›

Yes, you can most definitely reuse mushroom grow kits! Mushroom grow kits are generally designed to give you more than one harvest depending on the species of mushroom inside your growing kit. There is enough water nutrition available in the substrate to give you multiple harvests over a period of 2-10 weeks.

Solution: It's all about drainage. If you're using a mushroom growing kit, don't let it sit in water after you've misted it. If you're using bags or bins or some other indoor method, don't over-water and make holes in the bottom for water to run out.

Give your block some fresh air

Leaving the plastic on your kit helps to keep moisture in, preventing the block from drying out. Feel free to spray it periodically when it's looking parched as you would inside. After a couple of weeks, you should expect mushrooms after heavy rainfall or after a big temperature shift.

If you are looking at storing a kit we recommend selecting a White Oyster or Lion's Mane kit as these varieties can be stored for a couple of months. Most mushroom kits will store for 3-6 months in the fridge if necessary. To store your kit, keep it in the fridge.

Water your grow kit just like you did before, but the more water the better this second time around! The more water you give your mushrooms the bigger and faster they grow back, so don't ever be afraid of over-watering. Please note - mushrooms take longer to grow back a second time than they did the first time around.

Mushroom grow kits can be surprisingly resilient. While we recommend fruiting your grow kit as soon as possible, if you need to, you can store your grow kit in the refrigerator for up to 6 months!

I got a couple of oyster mushroom growing kits from Back to the Roots. As far as cost goes, these kits, which vary between $16–$20 dollars, aren't necessarily going to serve as an economical substitute for buying mushrooms from the grocery store. But they are a great way for you to get your mushroom-growing legs.

Each grow kit usually lasts for about 2-3 harvests, but this will vary depending on the variety of grow kit you choose. Kits may produce more or less mushrooms in total before they expire and must be replaced.

To initiate fruiting, lowering temperatures and increasing oxygen levels generally encourages mushroom formation. Initiation can be in the form of cold shocking, water shocking or introducing more oxygen by cutting a hole in the bag. them with water as if in a strong rainstorm.

Should mushroom kits be kept in the dark? ›

All our kits are recommended to be grown in a room with enough light that you can read a book by during the day. Because mushrooms don't photosynthesis the light doesn't need to be natural, they'll get all their nutrition from the substrate block, and will just use the light to initiate growth.

Oyster mushrooms are by far the easiest and most reliable mushrooms to grow. For beginners we recommend our Mist & Grow Oyster mushroom grow kits. Simply cut an X in one side of the bag, cover with a humidity tent, and mist a few times daily. Within 7-10 days a cluster of baby mushrooms will appear!

Pink oyster spawn will colonize your grow bags and start to pin in just 9 to 14 days. Once you place your bags in fruiting conditions, you could have your first flush of pink oysters in under a week. On the longer end, your fruiting phase might take up to 12 days.

Compared to other fungi, the mycelium of the pink oyster mushroom is wispy and can be a little difficult to see. With time it starts to turn pink, making it much more obvious. However, often pink oyster kits can be started while the mycelium is still wispy white with fantastic results.

Additionally, do not consume an excessive amount of oyster mushrooms as it may cause an upset stomach and nausea. Sometimes, they may cause gas buildup in the intestines as some carbohydrates are difficult to digest. The recommended daily value of oyster mushrooms is one cup.

With that said, the mushroom grow bags are durable and can be used for a long time. When they are filled, the bags have a sturdy stand-up shape and a strong bottom seal while still being breathable. Not to mention, you can reuse them, making these mushroom grow bags an economical option.

Don't panic! Your mushroom kit still has all the food needed to produce mushrooms. Simply pick off the dried-up pins, wait one week, letting the block dry out on a plate. Then, soak the block for 20 minutes in cold water, drain all the water out of your kit (species that grow in the bag) and start the process over.
